LGA Chair embarks on rehabilitation of Sapele-Warri highway

Delta State

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Eugene Inoaghan has embarked on the rehabilitation of the failed portion of the Sapele-Warri road at Amukpe roundabout.

LENTORLITENEWS Metro gathered that the rehabilitation was kick-started on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, with the management of the Local Government on ground monitoring the exercise.

Among the council management at the site were the Chairman, Chief Inoaghan, the Vice Chairman, Hon Vincent Ayomanor, Secretary to the LGA, Hon Felix Ayemidejor as well as Engr Matthew Okotie, the Head of Department, Works in the Local Government.

While speaking with journalists, the Council Chairman disclosed that the Local Government decided to embark on the rehabilitation of the failed federal road despite the huge cost involved “because the Amukpe roundabout is a major road linking other local government areas and that the failed portion of the highway has hampered the free flow of vehicles by road users”

He stated that the Local Government was pained by the nightmares motorists go through on daily basis at the failed portion of the road since it deteriorated.

While assuring that the road would be rehabilitated to standard despite paucity of funds, he noted that “rehabilitating the failed portion of the road would hopefully reduce traffic congestion for commuters”.

Engr Matthew Okotie, the HOD Works explained that the Local Government Chairman decided to rehabilitate the failed federal road in view of the volume of traffic along the route which had always resulted in gridlock on daily basis, in the past few days.

Many motorists could not hide their joy as they paid glowing tributes to the Local Government Council for ameliorating their hardship as a result of the ongoing rehabilitation work.

A commercial driver along the route, Samson Ojeifo declared, “This is a federal road, but what the Sapele Local Government Council has done as regards these repairs is worthy of commendation”.
